Crazy Love

The purpose of my blog is to share what God is teaching me on my spiritual journey and to encourage you in your personal life and in your relationships.

At the beginning of each new year I pick a theme that I want to focus on for my spiritual growth.  Recently while I was doing some studying, I was impacted by Paul's words in Eph. 3:17-19.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  

This year I have made it my spiritual journey to know and grow in God's love.  How would my life be different if I knew more deeply the love of God?  How would my relationships with my wife, children and others be if I really knew what it meant to be loved?

Do I really love God for who He is, or do I love God because of what He does for me?  Do I realize how much God loves me even when things are not going well for me?

It seems to me that we have learned to live lives that require very little if any of the resources of God.  We have learned to make life work for us apart from God.  And the sad part is that we do not even realize it.  Paul is saying that God's love surpasses knowledge, so knowing God's love is more that an intellectual exercise.  Really knowing love comes when we are totally dependent on Him.  As I go through the valleys and disappointments that I come to the realization that God is there and He is faithful.

I realize that as I say this, that it seems that I am asking for something that I really do not want.  I don't want to struggle nor go through the valleys.  But yet I want to know God's love.

My prayer is, God how do you want to teach me of your love for me?  Knowing your love is more important to me than my personal comfort and what people think of me.  I do not want to tell you how you should love me.  You love perfectly.  I want to learn you love so that I can love you better and other people.
